Analytical thinking is a fundamental skill in education and which needs to be developed. This research would describe the effectiveness of process-oriented guided ınquiry learning (POGIL) to improve students’ analytical thinking skills on the topic of excretory system. This study used Research and Development (R&D) design. It was conducted on the 11th grade students of senior high school in Ngawi, East Java in 2017/2018 academic year with one group pre-test and post-test design. The data collection techniques used were validation, observation, and test. The data were analyzed descriptively, whereby the analysis result was tested with the Gain test. The result showed that the students’ analytical thinking skills was significantly increased as stated by the N-gain score. In control class, there were 2 students (6.7%) whose N-gain score was in the low category, 25 students (83.3%) whose N-gain score was in the medium category, and 3 students (10%) whose N-gain score was in the high category. In the experimental class, there were 21 students (70%) who got N-gain score in the medium category, and 9 students (30%) who got N-gain score in the high category. The results of this research showed that the students analytical thinking skills were different after the implementation of POGIL method. Therefore, it could be concluded that the POGIL was effective to improve students’ analytical thinking skills on the excretory system in senior high school. The information obtained from this research can be used as a tool to improve students’ analytical thinking skills.

Abstract---Thinking skills is a trained skill according to the Curriculum-2013, ie analytical thinking skills rather than mechanistic thinking (routine). Analytical thinking skills can be improved through a particular learning model or learning strategy. This study examines learning models that improve analytical thinking skills. The learning models include Guided Inquiry, Problem Based Learning (PBL) model, Group Investigation model, Context Based Learning Model (CBL), and Model of Analytical Thinking Skills Training Process. The strategies used in improving analytical thinking skills include MURDER (Mood, Understand, Recall, Digest, Expand, Review) and Infographics (Information and Graphics). Based on the result of the study, it is found that the model and learning strategy to improve analytical thinking skills generally start from a problem, then the problem is formulated to be proved together with the group by searching relevant information, observation/ experiment, and conclude the obtained result, and communicate. The weaknesses of each model and learning strategy will be studied in developing valid, practical, and effective learning models in teaching analytical thinking skills.

Kemampuan berpikir analisis merupakan salah satu kemampuan berpikir tingkat tinggi yang harus dimiliki oleh siswa. Melalui berpikir analisis siswa dapat melihat suatu permasalahan secara menyeluruh untuk menemukan inti permasalahan yang terjadi dikehidupan sehari-hari serta mencari cara penyelesaiannya. Studi ini meyelidiki tentang kemampuan berpikir analisis siswa pada materi pencemaran lingkungan dan faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhinya. Sebanyak 101 siswa kelas XI MIPA yang digunakan sebagai sampel penelitian, sampel diambil dengan cara Cluster Random Sampling. Data dikumpulkan menggunakan soal tes kemampuan berpikir analisis, kuesioner dan wawancara guru. Analisis data menggunakan statistik deskriptif dengan rumus persentase (NP). Berdasarkan hasil analisis data dapat deskripsikan bahwa kemampuan berpikir analisis siswa pada tiga indikator, yaitu mengorganisasi sebesar 73,49% (baik), membedakan sebesar 66,90% (baik) dan mengatribusi sebesar 76,57% (baik). Faktor pendukung dari faktor internal dan eksternal berupa sumber referensi (82,89%), metode pembelajaran (84,86%) dan evaluasi pembelajaran (87,06%). Faktor penghambat dari faktor internal dan eksternal berupa Intelegensi (47,76%), minat siswa (60,20%) dan lingkungan (52,82%). Kemampuan berpikir analisis siswa kelas XI MIPA di SMA Negeri 4 Kota Bekasi termasuk kedalam kategori baik. Terdapat faktor pendukung dan penghambat yang mempengaruhinya.
