Abstract: Objectives:To analyze the effect of celery leaf extract on blood glucose and plasma insulin levels in elderly pre-diabetics.Methods:This study was conducted between March and November 2014 at the Faculty of Medicine, Syiah Kuala University, Banda Aceh, Indonesia. A quasi-experimental pretest-posttest with a control group was conducted with elderly pre-diabetic volunteers. The subjects included 16 elderly pre-diabetics older than 60 (6 males and 10 females). “…The treatment consisted of celery leaf extract capsules at the dose of 250 mg, three times daily for 12 days. Effectively, celery reduced blood glucose levels; however, there was not any correlation between blood glucose concentrations and plasma insulin levels in elderly prediabetic subjects (Yusni, Zufry, Meutia, & Sucipto, 2018). The data of beneficial effects of celery and its relevant components in some clinical studies are mentioned in Table 5.…”

“…Celery can provide health benefits owing to its phenolic acids and flavonoids contents. It has been demonstrated to have antioxidant activity (Popovic, Kaurinovic, Trivic, Mimica‐Dukic, & Bursac, 2006), liver protective effects (Abd El‐Mageed, 2011), and antidiabetic effects (Yusni, Zufry, Meutia, & Sucipto, 2018). However, the anti‐atopic dermatitis effects of celery are yet to be known.…”

“…This indicates that the higher the celery dose, the higher the expression of GLUT 4. Study conducted by Yusni et al, 2018, show that celery extract containing Quercetin which plays an important role in decreasing blood sugar on diabetic mice induced by Alloxan. Quercetin was identified not only to play role in the translocation of GLUT-4 mRNA into adipose cell membranes and skeletal cells but also could upregulate GLUT-4.…”
