The Effects of Ananas comosus L. Leaves on Diabetic-Dyslipidemic Rats Induced by Alloxan and a High-Fat/High-Cholesterol Diet

Abstract: The aim of this study is to demonstrate the effects of Ananas comosus L. leaves on diabetic-dyslipidemic rats. Hypoglycemic and hypolipidemic activities of the ethanolic extract of Ananas comosus L. leaves (EEACL) were evaluated in normal and alloxan-induced diabetic rats by oral glucose tolerance test and an olive oil load test. Anti-diabetic, anti-hyperlipidemic and anti-oxidative activities of EEACL were also investigated in diabetic-dyslipidemic rats induced by alloxan and a high-fat/high-cholesterol diet.… Show more

“…The effect of 500 mg/kg body weight of leave extract has been shown to lessen TC, TG and LDL-c level and increase HDL-c level which is very much similar to the previous data (Weidong et al 2005). The 500 mg/kg body weight of the leave extract of Ananas comosas (L.) Merr.…”

“…The ethanolic extract of pineapple leaves containing phenolics have shown to inhibit the increase in blood glucose in diabetic rats as well as inhibit the increase in postprandial triglycerides (Xie et al, 2005). The other report on the ethanolic extracts of pineapple leaves have shown to content high amount of phytochemicals including p-coumaric acid, 1-o-pcoumaroylglycerol, caffeic acid and 1-o-caffeoylglycerol (Xie et al, 2006).…”

“…25 Estudos de extratos etanólicos das folhas de A. comosus mostraram efeitos antidiabético, anti-hiperlipidimêmico e antioxidante. 26 Estudos recentes do mesmo grupo de pesquisa com o objetivo de investigar a sensibilidade à insulina em ratos diabéti-cos e células HepG2 foram otimistas. Os resultados sugerem que os extratos de A. comosus podem aumentar a sensibilidade à insulina em ratos com diabetes do tipo II.…”
