The effects of in ovo administered bisphenol A on tibial growth plate histology in chicken

Abstract: Objectives The aim of this study was to determine of the effects of in ovo administered BPA on embryonic development of the tibial growth plate using histological methods in chickens. Methods Three hundred and ten fertile eggs of Isa Brown laying parent stock were divided into five groups as untreated control, vehicle‐injected control, 50, 100, and 250 μg/egg BPA. At the 13th, 18th, and 21st days of incubation, eggs were randomly opened from each group until 10 live embryos were obtained. Embryos were weighed … Show more

“…Dietary MLF for breeder hens significantly increased the level of p-mTOR/mTOR in breast muscle of chicks at 1 d after hatching, indicating that the up-regulated expression of p-mTOR was an important effector molecule to promote the development of offspring. A number of studies have considered the relative breast muscle weight and relative tibial length during the incubation as important parameters for embryonic development ( Akil and Zakaria, 2015 ; Öznurlu et al., 2021 ; Piestun et al., 2015 ). And BMP is involved in osteoblast differentiation and bone formation regulation ( Gomez-Puerto et al., 2019 ).…”

“…Chicken embryos are a common model for investigation of embryotoxicity [ 84 , 85 ], neurotoxicity [ 42 , 86 , 87 ], eye diseases [ 88 ], retinal development [ 89 ], and retinal pathologies [ 90 ]. Therefore, chicken embryos are good models for investigation of the effects of many food additives, flavour-enhancing additives, and environmental pollutants during embryogenesis because embryonic development is fully described and the individual developmental stages are clearly visible and easily accessible [ 91 , 92 ].…”
