The Effects of Interpersonal Differences Within Religious Communities: A Group Actor-Partner Interdependence Model of U.S. Congregations

Abstract: This study examined how the composition of religious communities influences the spiritual outcomes of members. The U.S. Congregational Life Survey was analyzed using the group actorpartner interdependence model, an analysis that assesses how individual-level outcomes are influenced by (a) the actor's characteristics, (b) the characteristics of other congregants, (c) the relational demography of the actor, and (d) the degree that other congregants differ among themselves. This model, including both surface-leve… Show more

“…There are professional groups in which interaction and social function are particularly relevant, such as priests. The ability of this group to understand and deal with personal emotions and, more fundamentally, those of their parishioners, is of paramount importance in the correct development of their social role ( Meaghera, 2015 ). There is evidence that EI is significantly related to specific pro-social attitudes ( Jiménez & López-Zafra, 2011 ), which are fundamental to the work of priests.…”

“…Researchers have studied the impact of religious orientation on information search (Muhamad and Mizerski, 2010), decision making (Muhamad and Mizerski, 2013), shopping orientation (Essoo and Dibb, 2004), openness to the religious developments (Meagher, 2015) and perceived religious rewards (Lavrič and Flere, 2011). Prior studies opine that an individual’s religious orientation emphasizes on the perception and awareness of religious laws that would influence consumer behaviour (Muhamad et al , 2016); however, there are limited studies that investigate the impact of a person’s religious orientation on the actual purchase behaviour and repurchase intention towards halal cosmetics, thereby leaving a huge lacuna in the body of knowledge, which this study attempts to address.…”
