Abstract: This paper traces the emergence of Information Technology (IT) for educational purposes. It begins with a discourse on the relationship between culture and educational technology. “…Tidak mengherankan jika generasi yang baru diberi nama sebagai Net Generation atau N-Geners, yang memiliki hubungan erat dengan teknologi, baik dari segi penggunaan bahkan hingga segi pemahamannya (Tapscott, 1998). Melanjutkan pembahasan tentang N-Geners, Ronald Alan Berk (2009) mengidentifikasi 20 karakteristik mereka, yaitu: (1) cerdas teknologi, (2) bergantung pada mesin pencari demi informasi, (3) tertarik pada multi-media, (4) menciptakan konten internet, (5) mengoperasikan dengan kecepatan yang cepat, (6) belajar dengan penemuan induktif, (7) belajar dengan pendekatan trial-and-error, (8) dapat melakukan banyak hal dalam waktu yang bersamaan (multitasking), ( 9) rentang perhatian yang lebih pendek, (10) berkomunikasi secara visual, (11) membutuhkan interaksi sosial secara tatap muka, (12) terbuka secara emosional, (13) merangkul keragaman dan multikulturalisme, ( 14) lebih memilih kerja sama tim dan kolaborasi, (15) berusaha untuk menyesuaikan gaya hidup, ( 16) merasakan tekanan untuk berhasil, (17) terus-menerus mencari umpan balik, (18) tumbuh di gratifikasi instan, (19) merespon dengan cepat dan mengharapkan respon balik yang cepat pula, dan (20) lebih suka mengetik dibanding menulis.…”
