The emotional design of product color: An eye movement and event‐related potentials study

Abstract: It is the key to accurately obtain participants' emotional responses to product color for the product color emotional design. However, traditional research rarely studies participant's internal emotion cognition and changing mechanism. In this article, a color emotional design method based on eye movements and event‐related potentials is proposed. Participative behavior experiment, eye movement, and event‐related potentials were carried out. Participants evaluated the electric iron pictures with different colo… Show more

“…The regions recognized as the interesting spots experience more fixation counts and a longer fixation duration [ 48 , 49 , 50 , 51 ]. The hot-spot map as a common representation of fixation duration that appears in the studies of eye movements, which reflects the attention of participants [ 52 , 53 ]. Together, the fixation count, fixation duration and hot-spot map were used to analyze the popularity of different bamboo furniture pieces after tung oil treatment.…”

“…For instance, Ding et al (2021) selected fourteen conductive electrodes (Fp1, FP2, F3, FZ, F4, C3, CZ, C4, P3, PZ, P4, O1, LZ, and O2) to indicate the emotional changes caused by product color, by which significant LPP components were generated at the Fp1 and P4 positions. The high color consistency of the product was favorable for inducing a larger LPP amplitude [ 88 ].…”

“…The hot zone map method is selected for color extraction of animated images. The eye-tracking data visualization method should be reasonably determined according to the actual design evaluation content 30 , 31 , 40 42 . In the heat zone map method, the denser the hot spots, the longer the subject's gaze time in the area of interest, the longer the gaze time, and the greater the interest in the color matching of the area 43 .…”
