The energy dependence of the diffraction minimum in the elastic scattering and new LHC data

Abstract: The soft diffraction phenomena in the elastic proton-proton scattering are reviewed from the viewpoint of experiments at the LHC (TOTEM and ATLAS collaboration). In the framework of the High Energy Generalized Structure (HEGS) model the form of the diffraction minimum in the nucleon-nucleon elastic scattering in a wide energy region is analyzed. The energy dependencies of the main characteristics of the diffraction dip are obtained. The numerical predictions at LHC energies are presented. The comparison of the… Show more

“…The result depends however on the choice of the odderon, for which many options exist. The problem was studied also by O. Selyugin using the HEGS model [42] predicting that the (dσ el /dt)max(s) (dσ el /dt) min (s) ratio increases at LHC energies. As stressed in the previous paragraph, the behaviour of the ratio (dσ el /dt)max(s) (dσ el /dt) min (s) , explicit for the separate pomeron and odderon contributions, becomes complicated by their interference and depends on the fitted parameters.…”

“…They note that at LHC energies the exponential behaviour of dσ/dt is no longer valid. A different set of parametrisation has been considered in [328][329][330] that includes Coulomb interference region as well as large t values, in terms of about 10 parameters.…”

“…The HEGS model reproduces well the form and the energy dependence of the diffraction dip of the proton-proton and proton antiproton elastic scattering [86]. The predictions of the model in most part reproduce the form of the differential cross section at √ s = 13 TeV.…”
