Analogies are bridges between prior knowledge and new knowledge to make meaning of the new one. Analogies are particularly effective in teaching science concepts that are not very apparent in the students' everyday lives due to their abstract nature. For this reason, it is essential to adapt analogies to teach new concepts effectively in science education. Analogy-related studies published between 2009 and 2020 were examined in this manuscript to determine the use of analogies as a teaching technique in science education (Physics, Chemistry, Biology). To reach the studies about "Analogy," ERIC, EBSCO, Springer LINK, Taylor Francis, Wiley Online Library Full Collection, Science Direct, ProQuest Dissertations, Theses Global, Google Scholar, and Scopus databases were searched. Then, Turkish databases, including ULAKBIM and YÖK (National Thesis Center), were also searched. A total of 80 research papers published between 2009 and 2020 that met the study's criteria were examined. Within the scope of the study, the subject areas, purpose, sample, results, and suggestions of compiled analogy studies were focused on. Based on the analysis, it was determined that most of the analogy research was conducted in the field of chemistry, the most employed methodology was qualitative research, and the most common purpose of these studies was to see the effects on academic achievement. When the studies were conducted to examine academic achievement, it was seen that the use of analogy applications as a teaching technique in science teaching has positive results on student achievement.

Multiculturalism in Social Studies Teaching: A Meta-Synthesis Study

Purpose: This paper aims to evaluate the findings of studies investigating multiculturalism in social studies teaching in Turkey. Studies examining the concept of multiculturalism, which belongs to an important place in the social studies course, were analyzed, and the findings related to what was focused most, what was needed and the subjects that had never been investigated before were presented.Design/Methodology/Approach: The meta-synthesis method, which is one of the qualitative methods based on interpreting and synthesizing the findings of the studies, carried out with a qualitative and mixed method investigating multiculturalism in the field of social studies teaching. In the meta-synthesis method, researches on the same subject are interpreted from a critical point of view by creating themes or main templates. Within the scope of the "inclusion criteria" determined, 11 studies examining multiculturalism in social studies teaching were analysed. Findings:The findings showed that in order to describe the current situation, the great majority of the studies examined the documents, and the data collection and data analysis methods were similar due to the document analysis method. Studies examining multiculturalism in different units of the curriculum of social studies course show that the situations of addressing multiculturalism in the program have varied over the years, and that there have been significant developments over time in terms of the representation of multiculturalism in the context of learning domain. Studies conducted on social studies textbooks show that the reflection of multiculturalism on books took place later than the curriculum. As a result, it is seen that the level of multiculturalism is still not sufficient. Conclusion:Instead of conducting descriptive studies that determine the extent to which multiculturalism is represented in social studies documents, social studies researchers are suggested to carry out studies using different methods that create products for the creation of multicultural education environments that can be carried out with a social studies curriculum.

The aim of this study is to examine studies conducted within the Movement to Increase Opportunities and Technology (FATIH) project in order to reveal the current position of the project and to determine further research gaps. A method based on thematic content analysis was used for the study. Academic studies that have been analyzed in research were obtained from databases such as the Higher Education Council (HEC) National Thesis Center, TUBITAK ULAKBIM Social and Humanities Database, ERIC, and Google Academic. A total of 137 studies were analyzed within the scope of the study. Following the examination of the papers, the study included 54 academic-study-specific criteria which were grouped under five main themes. These themes are (1) general ideas about the FATIH project; (2) views, ideas, and suggestions for the implementation of the FATIH project; (3) studies on the equipment of the FATIH project; (4) studies on the training related to the FATIH project; and (5) studies evaluating and analyzing the FATIH project. Within the scope of the FATIH project, it was seen that several studies were done under the three. As a result of this thematic content analysis, it is stated that there is a need for new studies on teacher education, hardware infrastructure, and e-content related to the FATIH project. Furthermore, it is suggested that teacher training should be provided periodically, especially for special to each course and software aspect be used in learning and teaching activities of the project should be strengthened by further diversification.
