The first finding of the North American freshwater limpets Ferrissia fragilis (Tryon, 1863) (Mollusca, Gastropoda) in the Middle Volga basin

Abstract: The North American freshwater gastropod Ferrissia fragilis (Tryon, 1863) was recorded for the first time in the Middle Volga basin in October 2008. Live specimens and shells of mollusks were found in the coastal zone of Lake Middle Kaban, which is a cooling pond of the Kazan Heat and Electric Power Plant. Most likely, this alien gastropod was introduced into the lake from an amateur aquarium. Within the popula tion of F. fragilis, a variability of shell shape cups was marked.

“…The invasion pathways of F. californica in Morocco are unknown. However, it has been verified that the aquarium trade is the main responsible for the establishment of this invasive species into nonnative areas (Boettger, 1949;Tokinova, 2012;Vecchioni et al, 2017). Ornamental aquarium pet trade starts to be come a leading pathway for the introduction of aquatic invasive species in Morocco (Mabrouki et al, 2020;Taybi et al, 2020aTaybi et al, , 2021Taybi et al, , 2023.…”
