This article explores the significance of documenting indigenous African dances, specifically focusing on the Umxhentso dance within the cultural context of Xhosa amagqirha in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa. Historically, Indigenous dances in African societies have served as crucial elements of communal ceremonies, embodying cultural traditions, spiritual beliefs, and social cohesion. However, colonialism and contemporary globalisation have threatened the preservation of these traditional dance forms. This paper employs a qualitative approach, incorporating interviews with participants and observations and extant literature and data analysis using thematic analysis. The findings underscore the multifaceted role of the Umxhentso dance, highlighting its function as a medium for connecting with ancestors, enhancing divination practices, and reinforcing spiritual potency within the community. Moreover, the article emphasises the value of documenting indigenous dances in combating stereotypes and misconceptions, preserving cultural heritage, and promoting intercultural understanding. This study contributes to the ongoing discourse on the importance of safeguarding and revitalising indigenous African dances to preserve cultural diversity and identity. The development of the creative industry is growing rapidly in Indonesia in line with technological advancements. This research focuses on the strategies used to enhance the competitiveness of Linkrafin, which is based on the cultural heritage and local wisdom of Jember Regency. This study employs a qualitative approach, utilizing observation, interviews, and documentation methods. Data analysis in this research involves data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. Using the internal factor evaluation (IFE) and external factor evaluation (EFE) matrices to conduct a SWOT analysis, the researcher concludes that Linkrafin defines creativity as all forms of ideas and concepts (intellectual assets) in a multiplatform creative space that benefits creators and consumers while serving educational, entertainment, social, cultural, and economic functions. All elements within the creative industry, encompassing production processes, distribution, exhibition, appreciation, education, and documentation archives, are included. Linkrafin's progress since 2019 has yielded significant achievements, not only at the regional level but also at the national level.

Framed within social constructivism theory, this article argued that government, organisations, and stakeholders could foster and promote collaboration, community engagement, cultural recognition and policy advocacy to address the socio-economic challenges faced by Indigenous African musicians. With an increasing number of indigenous African musicians who greatly contribute to the country’s cultural landscape, South Africa is well renowned for its incredibly rich and diversified heritage of music. However, due to modern influences and globalisation, there are growing concerns that indigenous African musicians are facing significant obstacles in the music industry that have implications for preserving and promoting cultural heritage. A sensitive endeavour that calls for careful navigation and adaptation is balancing classical aspects with modern musical genres. It was against this background that this article set out to critically discuss and raise awareness of the challenges experienced by South African Indigenous musicians. A qualitative research method was adopted together with critical discourse analysis as the primary methodology. The findings of this article pointed out that indigenous African musicians face several socio-economic challenges in pursuing their artistic careers. The findings of this article affirmed that there is a need to empower indigenous African musicians through educational programmes and financial support from various stakeholders to preserve South African culture, identity, and indigenous languages in the globalised world.
