The Gastroprotective Effect of Naringenin against Ethanol-Induced Gastric Ulcers in Mice through Inhibiting Oxidative and Inflammatory Responses

Abstract: Naringenin is a major flavanone found in grapes, tangelos, blood oranges, lemons, pummelo, and tangerines. It is known to have anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anticancer, antimutagenic, antifibrogenic, and antiatherogenic pharmacological properties. This study aims to investigate the anti-inflammatory effects of naringenin in ethanol-induced gastric damage in vivo and ethanol-stimulated KATO III cells in vitro. Our results showed that pretreatment with naringenin significantly protected mice from ethanol-induc… Show more

“…Based on the results of in vivo experiments, as well as the concentration at which naringenin has been shown to exert effects in other studies 42 , 85 , 86 , we designed different concentration gradients for cell viability assays. The CCK-8 assay has been used to determine the number of viable cells in cell proliferation or toxicity assays based on the principle that WST-8 can be reduced to water-soluble formazan dyes by some dehydrogenases in mitochondria in the presence of electron carrier 1-methoxy PMS.…”

“…Naringenin (NAR) is a flavonoid compound rich in many bioactive substances and possesses properties of anti-inflammation, free radical scavenging, antioxidation, and anti-tumor. 8,9 NAR has been extensively applied for preventing multiple cardiovascular disorders including atherosclerosis, hypertension, and arrhythmia. 10,11 Recently, researchers found that NAR has protective effects against MIRI and can be considered a potential candidate drug for MIRI treatment.…”
