The growing photovoltaic market in India

Abstract: Growth of the Indian photovoltaic industry, which produces 58 MW p at present, is in¯uenced by global market trends, owing to the cost of the technology. It is also driven by local government initiatives and policies. The current structure of the market and its various segments is discussed, with the objective of studying the overall growth potential. A growth of 250 MW p in the next ten years is projected, with annual production reaching 35 MW p by 2010. In order to achieve the projected market volume, speci®… Show more

“…The total amount of installed solar PV in India has climbed to 2208.36 MW in 2014ranking just outside of the top 10 countries deploying PV (MNRE, 2014a). Until 2009 the development of solar PV energy in India was limited to government-sponsored programs related to lanterns, cookers, mini grids and solar home systems with little political support for manufacturing and R&D activities (Chaurey, 2001;Sharma et al, 2012). This changed when in 2010 the Indian government launched their National Solar Mission under the National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC).…”

“…The results have to be analyzed in terms of the evolution of the world PV market perspectives, both on a global and regional scale. [10][11][12] According to many energy analysts, and especially the World Energy Council forecasts, solar energy will be considered as a world major energy supplier by 2050 and beyond. In this regard, we can consider the obtained data as fairly acceptable.…”
