The Growth of Oil Palm Seedlings using a Combination Medium of Organic Oil Palm Empty Fruit Bunch and NPK Fertilizer at Main Nursery

Abstract: Oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) holds a very strategic role in the Indonesia economy. Plants that have reached the economical age of 25 years need to be replanted using qualified oil palm seedling. The qualified seedling is obtained through proper fertilization. The combination of NPK fertilizer and organic material of oil palm empty fruit bunches (OPEFB) which has been given a cellulolytic bacterial consortium can provide sufficient nutrients for the growth of oil palm seedlings. The study aimed to determi… Show more

“…The low N element in the soil causes the growth response of oil palm seeds can not increase. Some research shows that the growth of oil palm seedlings tends to increase if given the empty fruit bunch of oil palm compost [28] as well as other compost and vermicompost [29]. This is due to the content of haranya elements is sufficient for the growth of oil palm seedlings.…”

“…The use of inorganic fertilizers is increasingly expensive, especially NPK, so it is necessary to find a solution so that the growth of oil palm seedlings remains good, but the cost of using inorganic fertilizers can be reduced. Hapsos et al, (2020) suggested using empty oil palm bunches in combination with biological fertilizers to reduce NPK doses. Potassium fertilizer application can increase N, K, and Mg absorption in plant roots (Fauzi et al, 2019).…”
