The hydroalcoholic extract of watercress attenuates protein oxidation, oxidative stress, and liver damage after bile duct ligation in rats

Abstract: Cholestatic liver disease is recognized by extreme collagen formation and deposition, which is mediated by free radicals. The aim of the current study was to investigate the probable hepatoprotective effects of hydroalcoholic extract of watercress (WC) against oxidative stress and liver injury in bile duct ligation (BDL)‐ induced cholestatic rats. A total of 32 male Wistar rats were divided into four groups; sham control (SC), BDL, SC + hydroalcoholic extract of WC and BDL + hydroalcoholic extract of WC. WC‐tr… Show more

“…In kidney tissue, tSH groups were evaluated as another index of oxidative stress. In the defense system against ROS, its reduction was an vital sign of oxidative stress (Sadeghi, Jahanbazi, et al, 2019). Based on the results, there was a significant decrease in the tSH groups of the kidney in CP group compared to control, consistent with previous report (Kabirifar et al, 2017).…”

“…The spectrophotometric method was employed in order to measure total thiol content. In this method, DTNB is used as a reagent that reacts to the thiol groups to produce a yellow complex with 412 nm maximal absorbance 26 . Also, for the expression of the total thiol (T‐SH), a 13,600 M −1 cm −1 molar absorption coefficient was taken into account.…”
