The Hα Broadband Photometric Reverberation Mapping of Four Seyfert 1 Galaxies

Abstract: Broadband photometric reverberation mapping (PRM) has been investigated for active galactic nuclei (AGNs) in recent years, but mostly on accretion disk continuum RM. Due to the small fraction of broad emission lines in the broad band, PRM for emission lines is very challenging. Here, we present an ICCF-Cut method for broadband PRM to obtain the Hα broad-line lag and apply it to four Seyfert 1 galaxies: MCG+08-11-011, NGC 2617, 3C 120, and NGC 5548. All of them have high-quality broadband lightcurves with daily… Show more

“…Finally, we run an interpolated cross-correlation function (ICCF; e.g., Gaskell & Peterson 1987) to calculate the emission-line lag. This method has recovered H α lags for four Seyfert 1 galaxies (MCG+089 11-011, NGC 2617, 3C 120, and NGC 5548) successfully (Ma et al 2023).…”

“…First, we provide a brief introduction to the ICCF-Cut method. It was originally developed by Ma et al (2023) to measure the emission-line lags from broadband photometric light curves. The method provides a possible way of estimating the BLR sizes and black hole masses of a large sample of AGNs in large multi-epoch high-cadence photometric surveys.…”

“…In our previous work (Ma et al 2023; hereafter Paper I), we proposed the cross-correlation function (ICCF)-Cut process to remove the continuum emission and isolate the emission-line from the broadband light curves. This procedure essentially follows the continuum removal proposed by Haas et al (2011) andPozo Nuñez et al (2012) with some modifications.…”
