The impact of density and mixture ratio of melamine on some properties of oriented strand board

Abstract: The aim of this study is to determine the effects of density and melamine rate on thickness swelling, moisture resistance, modulus of elasticity in bending, bending strength and tensile strength of Oriented Strand Board. For this purpose, Oriented Strand Board panels were produced at three different density (550 -570 -590 kg.m -3 in size of 2440 x 1220 x 11 mm) and at five different mixture ratio of melamine in urea formaldehyde resin (0% -2,5% -5% -15% -20%). Urea formaldehyde and melamine urea formaldehyde i… Show more

“…The crucial conclusions concerning the effect of the type and size of industrial furniture board waste exerted upon the torque during the comminution by means of a wood chipper are as follows: (1) In the process of comminution of industrial furniture board waste, the torque value increases approximately linearly with growing cross sectional thickness. The highest recorded absolute change of the average value of the driving torque is around 233 Nm.…”

“…Thus at laboratory scale diphenylmethane diisocyanate (MDI) values ranged from 7% to 10% (Febrianto et al 2010;Hidayat et al 2013;Dumitrascu et al 2020), whereas the urea-formaldehyde (UF) and phenol-formaldehyde (PF) values were between 6% and 15% (Lee and Md. Tahir 2003;Hiziroglu 2009;Barbuta et al 2012;Esen et al 2013;Akyildiz et al 2018). Accordingly, the resulted values of properties are usually higher than those obtained in production.…”

“…More recently, options to use resin or natural starch-type binders have been explored to produce even more environmentally friendly composites and boards from hemp shives, rice husks, sunflower stalk, mycelium, and nut shells [ 29 , 30 , 31 , 32 , 33 , 34 , 35 , 36 ]. Such development is due to rising prices of resources worldwide and the need for more locally supplied stock.…”
