“…Although it might be time-consuming to prepare the workshop and contact potential participants, presenting the workshop for teachers outside the class can be an implementation of one of the three pillars of higher education in Indonesia, community service (Hendrayana, 2020;Istambul, 2019), which certainly gives a plus point in terms of the national accreditation for the study program and the campus (Direktorat Jenderal Pendidikan Tinggi Kementerian Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan, 2021;Makarim, 2023), primarily when the success of community service activity is written and published in a community service journal (e.g., like Mali, 2022;Subekti & Susyetina, 2020;Subekti & Wati, 2020). “…As educators, they always have to design materials to equip students with the required future skills. However, a few lecturers lack teaching capacity, including the limited skills to develop a course [17][18][19]. This indicates the need for them to study the patterns of updating and developing a course that is relevant for students.…”

“…Despite the issues of English as a foreign language in Indonesia, (Lauder, 2008) states that it is now considered as an access to international markets, scientific knowledge and expertise, and it is needed for the country's development, especially for researchers and academics. Nowadays, many Indonesian researchers and lecturers of universities in Indonesia, who have a work culture namely Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi or Three Pillars of Higher Education which requires them to do teaching and research publications (Istambul, 2019), are interested in pursuing their study and career abroad in order to open more opportunities to contribute in the global communities. Therefore, their communicative competence in English is necessary to fulfil their intentions, mainly in speaking and writing.…”
