The Impact of Progressive Gear Geometry on the Braking Distance Length Under Changeable Operating Conditions

Abstract: This article presents independent tests results focused on the geometry impact of progressive gear used in a short distance transportation devices on the braking distance length both under changeable operating conditions as well as changeable loading. Variable operating conditions were obtained with the use of various lubricating agents. Five types of gears such as ASG100, PP16, PR2000, KB160 and a new solution CHP2000 were used for the tests. The tests were conducted with a free fall method application. The m… Show more

“…As a result of it, the mathematical model for predicting dynamic influences on passengers, for that kind of emergency situations, was developed. The design subject matters of safety gears and their effects on passenger safety were discussed in [8,10,11,12]. Lonkwic in [8] presented results from tests of different types of progressive safety gears, according to variable load and measured stopping distance of a cabin.…”

“…Lonkwic in [8] presented results from tests of different types of progressive safety gears, according to variable load and measured stopping distance of a cabin. The results showed that a type CHP-2000 of a progressive safety gear, presented in [10] and [11], is characterised by the shortest effective stopping distance and the shortest time of acting.…”

“…Then, a trial is made to identify a physical model by observation using simulation and laboratory tests [7]. Analysing the values of delays received in the experiment, the impact of the guides lubrication and contamination caused by greasing agents, their significant influence on the braking distance and in consequence on the delay value can be noticed.…”

“…The results confirmed the assumptions used for the numerical calculations. In the research study [7] the authors described the pre-tests for the impact of progressive gears geometry on the braking distance length both in changing operation conditions and changing loading. The tests were performed for the progressive gears used in hoisting and hauling equipment.…”
