“…Our result correlates well with data obtained by Schindler et al 12) , where the decrease of cation ability to destroy DNA-containing PEC in the order Ca ++ F Sr ++ S Li + A Na + F K + A Cs + has been ascertained. The same interrelation between the ability of cations and anions to destroy PEC and their affinity as counterions to the components of PEC was established for (PMA-PEVP) 6) and (PPh-PEVP) 25) complexes. The data obtained imply that the stability of DNA-containing PEC could be controlled effectively by changing the length, charge, and structure of the polycation chain 4 NCl is presented by a dotted line.…”

“…Data obtained in this paper could be important for the prediction and precise control of the equilibrium of the competitive reactions in solutions of DNA-containing PEC. The potential of such an approach for the control of reactions was demonstrated in a study of the model system (PMA-PEVP-PPh) 25) . values of PEC(DNA-PAVP) were calculated from data presented in Fig.…”

“…The latter is deduced from the higher stability of PEC formed by PEVP of different chain lengths with the polyphosphate anion, as compared to the corresponding PMA-containing PEC. [11] In contrast to PEC formed by flexible synthetic PMA and polyphosphate, the DNAcontaining PEC with short PEVP ceased to obey this regularity. It supports the assumption of the important role of charge-charge conformity of the partners in the dissociation of DNA-containing PEC with relatively short polyamines.…”

“…Analyses of the MD were performed on dried samples purified using an ultrafiltration apparatus (Filtron, cut off membrane 5 000 D) followed by lyophilization. The degree of carboxymethylation was determined on dried aliquots (15 -25 mg) by acidimetric titrations in a water/acetone mixture (1 : 1 v : v) acidified with 10 mol-% HNO 3 . The proportion of benzylamide, sulfonate, and sulfate groups was assessed from N and S elemental analysis performed by CNRS (France, Gif/Yvette).…”

“…In the present paper we report the results of a study of IPR which occured in the presence of modified dextrans (MD) with COO -, SO 3 -, and SO 4 -groups in the chains (Scheme 1). The MD were either labeled with the fluorescent pyrenyl group or not.…”
