“…For instance, ICT can encourage entrepreneurship in rural communities and developing countries, which one can see in the Taobao Villages in China (Leong, Pan, Newell, & Cui, 2016) and in Uganda (Betts, Bloom, and Weaver, 2015). “…It has also been suggested, however, that the scholarly debate on the digital divide has failed to address the divide that older people themselves create as they position themselves in relation to others, when describing how and why they engage with digital technologies (Kania-Lundholm & Torres, 2015). In fact, research shows that technological development has affected men and women differently and that technologies are not to be understood as neutral and value-free in relation to gender (Balka et al, 2009;Trauth et al, 2016). Other research takes a wider approach to the meaning of ICT in the everyday lives of older people (Hamblin et al, 2017) and the opportunities it can provide regarding supporting social relationships (Bergström & Hanson, 2017).…”

“…Aligned with previous approaches to ensure clarity, we separate the environmental influences into social influences and structural influences (Annabi & Lebovitz, 2018;Clayton, Beekhuyzen, & Nielsen, 2012). All of the constructs, when considered together, can explain within-gender variation in women's participation and progress in the IS field (Trauth, Cain, Joshi, Kvasny, & Booth, 2016).…”
