The Influence of Heat Treatment on Low Cycle Fatigue Properties of Selectively Laser Melted 316L Steel

Abstract: The paper is a project continuation of the examination of the additive-manufactured 316L steel obtained using different process parameters and subjected to different types of heat treatment. This work contains a significant part of the research results connected with material analysis after low-cycle fatigue testing, including fatigue calculations for plastic metals based on the Morrow equation and fractures analysis. The main aim of this research was to point out the main differences in material fracture dire… Show more

“…Further, residual stress on other surface characteristics, such as corrosion behavior [49], wear rate, and microstructure evolution reported some controversy. Additionally, there are some new types of approaches in the measurement of residual stress of AM part suggested by Kluczy ński et al [94,95], which significantly affect the fatigue properties of AM-made 316L steel [96][97][98], which was shown in the co-authors' own work. Hence, more work is required to explore the residual stress influences on corrosion behavior, wear rate, and microstructure evolution.…”

“…The HIP is conducted at temperatures between 1150 • C and 1190 • C, with applied pressure between 1000 and 1450 bar and a duration of 3-4 h [41,42,54,100]. In [77], some HIPed samples were subjected to Precipitation Hardening (PH) with water cooling to reduce the sigma phase formation phenomenon.…”

“…[25][26][27] Also, the authors of this paper performed research related to the influence of heat treatment on LCF properties. [28] It has to be taken into account that heat treatment significantly changes the microstructure of the AM parts which changes the fracture mechanisms. That is why it is very important to characterize the as-built AM samples in different fatigue conditions-especially under LCF conditions, because of the existence of the significant research gap in such a field.…”
