The Influence of Selected Test Conditions on the Impact Strength of Adhesively Bonded Connections

Abstract: The conditions of adhesive connections testing can significantly affect the recorded findings. The standards, under which the investigations are conducted, do not take into account numerous factors that can greatly influence the outcome of the tests. Moreover, the research parameters in the standards are not specified. It is not defined in what manner their change, or any failure to comply with the standards, will affect test results. This article presents the results of experimental research, completed with n… Show more

“…The strength of structural adhesive joints depends on many technological and constructional factors. The most important factors, the optimization of which may significantly increase the strength of structural adhesive joints, include the method of preparing the surfaces of the bonded elements, the type of adhesive used and the method of its preparation, the manufacturing technology considering the geometry of the joint, the method of loading and the conditions of curing the adhesive joint [ 1 , 2 ].…”

“…The impact strength of bonded joints was studied by Godzimirski, who used three different epoxy adhesives in his experiments. At the same time, he used models for numerical calculations, where the result was an increase in impact strength due to increased elastic strain values [43].…”

“…[ 8 , 9 , 10 , 11 , 12 ]. The conditions of preparing the joints also play a significant role in obtaining strong and reliable joints [ 13 , 14 ], as well as the manufacturing technology, taking into account the geometry of the joint, the method of loading the joint and the conditions of curing the adhesive joint [ 15 , 16 , 17 ]. The strength of the adhesive bond is also affected by various types of defects in the form of non-joined areas.…”
