“…Our results suggest that the 1,5‐AG concentration in vitreous humor provides useful information for indirect evaluation of the blood glucose level before death. However, the discrepancy between the 1,5‐AG concentrations in the vitreous humor and CSF indicates a need to take into account the influence of diet , race , age , sex , medication , and clinical history, especially in cases with severe renal disease (chronic kidney disease (CKD) stage 4–5 , although the acute renal failure is generally much less than that of kidney disease ) and other pathological conditions . Furthermore, because the 1,5‐AG concentration in vitreous humor was slightly higher than that in CSF, there may be a need to evaluate 1,5‐AG in vitreous humor separately from that in the CSF to determine whether blood glucose control was worsening before death.…”

“…There is no published report on plasma 1,5‐AG concentrations in children with renal or hepatic dysfunction. The Chinese herbal medicine such as Kampo increases, while acarbose lowers, the plasma 1,5‐AG levels in adult patients with T2DM (30, 31). There is no report on the effects of angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors on plasma 1,5‐AG levels in children or adults.…”

“…In addition, serum 1,5-AG shows an abnormally low level in conditions such as chronic renal failure in which reabsorption of 1,5-AG decreases [38][39][40] , pregnancy [41] , oxyhyperglycemia in which urinary glucose is observed transiently [42] , patients receiving long-term hyperalimentation [43] , and liver cirrhosis [44,45] . One of the causes of an abnormally high level of 1,5-AG is oral administration of a kind of Chinese medicines such as Ninjin-yoei-to and Kami-kihi-to which contain large amounts of 1,5-AG [46] . It is known that serum 1,5-AG during the neonatal period shows an apparently low level [47] .…”
