The fundamental issue is how to teach vocabulary as effectively as possible, since vocabulary became the most important factor in learning English. Vocabulary should not be learnt separately or by memorization without understanding. This aimed to explore the effectiveness of using game in Instructional material and media development (IMALD) classroom. This study adopts a qualitative methodology. Vocabulary test and observation were also done to support this research. The result of this study indicates that there is improvement on student vocabulary mastery. Student motivation and involvement during teaching learning process was also increasing. The results of the tests showed that most of students get high scores when translating English vocabulary. The implementation of games and other supporting fun activities succeeded in helping students to learn and understand new vocabulary. Overall, using games during teaching English was successful in improving students' vocabulary mastery. Implications of the study suggested that teachers should apply games in teaching vocabulary in order to provide students an effective learning.

Using digital games in language learning is beneficial, but their effectiveness in the Bangladeshi EFL context has been overlooked. Therefore, the purpose of this research was to evaluate the impact of playing digital games on Bangladeshi EFL learners’ ability to remember and retain the language. The Oxford Quick Placement Test was given to 78 Bangladeshi English as foreign language students. Based on the findings, 50 primary school pupils were selected based on the convenient sampling method as the study’s target group for further investigation. Afterward, they were separated into two groups: one for the experiment and another for the CG. After that, all subjects were subjected to pretesting, and then, the therapy was administered. The EG was educated by the researcher via the use of digital games. The participants in the EG were taught English vocabulary via the use of a computerized game, which they found entertaining. On the other hand, the students of the CG received a traditional vocabulary teaching. After teaching 90 vocabulary in nine sessions, an immediate vocabulary posttest was conducted on both groups to determine the treatment’s possible effects on their vocabulary recall. Three weeks later, a delayed posttest was given to the participants to examine the effect of digital games on their vocabulary retention. The results of paired samples and independent sample t -tests showed that there was a significant difference between the immediate and delayed posttests of the EG and CGs in favor of the EG. The EG outperformed the CG both on the immediate and delayed posttests. This study has some implications for teaching and learning vocabulary.

The use of realia as an additional teaching material incorporated in the language classroom has long been documented. It is used in classroom instruction to enhance students’ real-life experiences. However, there often exists a gap between the content taught in the classroom and its association with the real-life given the dynamic and complexity of each discipline that could restrict demonstration of real-life examples in the class. Although realia are easily obtainable, not all classrooms are supposed to employ additional materials as such due to the stipulated syllabus or content appropriateness. Various types of educational and illustrative realia like virtual realia, magazines, pictures, and songs are employed in the classroom practices and they are proven effective and yielded encouraging implications. Given the importance and longstanding usage of realia in classroom practices, this review aimed to review the types, implications, and limitations of realia in the recent educational context, specifically in the language classroom. It was concluded that the extensive use of realia may enrich students’ learning experiences in various levels of language classroom as supported by the literature. The current review also provides practical implications to students, educators and stakeholders to gauge a more in-depth understanding about the use of realia in classroom practices.
