The issue of addressing the lack of parking spaces for road freight transport in cities - a case study

Abstract: AbstractStatic traffic (parking of vehicles) is one of the most problematic areas of transport in urban areas. In particular, parking areas for heavy freight vehicles in city areas cause problems connected, for example, with insufficient capacity or inadequate equipment. In the Czech Republic the regional concepts for the location of parking lots for trucks have not been developed - rest areas are built mainly on highways. Drivers are forced into other roads to search for alter… Show more

“…Several measurements applications could significantly reduce traffic congestion level in the city: the implementation of various telematics systems as well as the correct setup and synchronisation of traffic light signalising at intersections (that is, creating a "green wave"), increasing the capacity of roads and construction of others, traffic regulation, limiting the right of entry to certain areas, or charging of the traffic within the city areas [28]. As noted by many authors [3,5,24,25,37,59], intelligent transport systems are very important in reducing traffic congestion levels in urban agglomerations.…”

“…The literature suggests negative influences of congestion on UFT operations, reducing deliveries and increasing emissions [55,56]. Lack of unloading areas increases both the distances travelled for parking [57,58] and illegal parking [59]. In Brazil, we add theft of goods as a UFT barrier.…”

“…2 ( )) is crucial for the driver to execute a transportation task, regardless of its nature. Gopalakrishnan et al in [49], Lizbetin and Bartuska in [19], Carrese, Mantovani and Nigro in [39], Mikusova and Abdunazarov in [24] and Gnap and Kubíková in [44] indicated the problem of an insufficient number of spaces ensuring stops (including daily rests), which forces truck drivers to stop in disallowed places or increase traffic congestion during the search for optional parking options. Another study addressed the problem of the unavailability of parking during rush hours, highlighting the negative impact on the transport system and its surroundings [43].…”
