The article addresses the question of the optimization of forest and agricultural land tenure in the environment of natural afforestation in accordance with the aims of sustainable development. The topicality of the research is predefined by the need for the increase of areas occupied by forests according to the legislative initiatives, need for the improvement of agricultural land, the improvement of ecology in the environment of insufficient afforestation. The resolving of the problem of self-afforested agricultural land plots in the process of land consolidation has been suggested. Approaches to the problem of natural agricultural land afforestation have been singled out, advantages and perspectives of land consolidation as compared to other approaches have been substantiated. The involvement of land plots defined as escheated inheritance and non-recalled land shares to the process of land reallotment at land consolidation has been suggested. The adjustment of the land reallotment methodology at land consolidation in the environment of natural afforestation of agricultural land has been suggested. As the result of reallotment, trees were kept on the afforested land plots, a joint consolidated forest mass was formed, the configuration of land plots was improved, road network was improved. The results can be used at the implementation of the Large-scale Afforestation of Ukraine environmental initiative, and in the following scientific research on land tenure and use spatial improvement.

The article highlights the problem of natural agricultural-land afforestation with insufficient forest cover of the area. The article purports to substantiate land consolidation aimed at the rationalisation of agricultural and forest land management in such conditions. The authors identify the main approaches to the issue of natural agricultural land afforestation. The afforested areas of agricultural land are suggested for redesignation as a forest resource as a result of a swap and reallotment of land plots. As an example, consolidation of available land, in the conditions of natural afforestation, has been accomplished based on a number of land masses in Chernihiv Oblast’, Ukraine. Resulting from the project implementation, better configuration and improved layout of agricultural land plots have been achieved, while the length and placement of country lanes have been optimized. The reforested agricultural areas within the specific land mass have been redesignated as a forest resource. The advantages and disadvantages of natural afforestation in land consolidation are identified in contrast to alternative approaches.The research findings can be used by territorial communities in the upgrade of land management practices, laying out and redesign of landscape parks and other nature conservation areas that include areas of business activity.

The issue of geospatial database provisioning for land consolidation objectives in Ukraine has been scrutinized in the article. The thematic justification is predefined by the increasing need for land consolidation and the need for the provision of the land consolidation process with the updated, full and valid data. The goal of the research is the substantiation of a set of the subject geospatial data as a constituent of the national infrastructure needed for managerial decisions on agricultural land consolidation and the respective land management plan development. Basic geospatial data sets predefined by the legislation in effect have been examined from the prospect of land consolidation. Thematic geospatial data sets have been suggested. The use of the suggested geospatial data sets in the course of the key stages of land consolidation has been analysed. The use of geospatial data at the implementation of a land consolidation project using the land reallotment optimization model has been examined. The research results can be used at the land consolidation decision making support, land resources management, development of specialized geoportals, in the following scientific researches on the development of the national geospatial data infrastructure, land consolidation in Ukraine.
