The left common iliac artery also compresses the left common iliac vein

Abstract: LCIV compression by the LCIA occurs in a relevant number of asymptomatic individuals and compression by the RCIA coexists in about one-half. The patterns of compression by LCIA correlate well with venographic and anatomic findings, which demonstrated damage of the LCIV unrelated to the RCIA crossing. Further investigations are needed to evaluate the hemodynamic and pathophysiologic implications of such compressive relationships. In fact, even if not necessarily associated with chronic venous disorders, LCIV co… Show more

“…There was one case in our sample of compression of the vena cava by a retroperitoneal tumor mass, the etiology of which is currently under investigation. 4,11,26 When cases can be evaluated in advance in this manner, it enables better planning of the tactics and techniques that will be used when treatment is administered.…”

“…810 In a few cases other causes of LCIV compression, for example by the left common iliac artery, arterial aneurysms (on both the common and internal iliac vein) or other masses have been described. 911 Furthermore a 3D anatomical assessment of the lower extremity, showing the increase in mass due to oedema or retroperitoneal fibrosis has been described. 12 Other authors focused on imaging the IVC.…”
