The luminescent and scintillation properties of YAlO3 and YAlO3:Ce single crystalline films grown by liquid phase epitaxy from BaO‐based flux

Abstract: Single crystalline films (SCFs) of undoped and Ce 3+ -doped YAlO 3 (YAP) perovskite were crystallized by liquid-phase epitaxy method onto YAP substrates for the first time from the novel lead-free BaO-B 2 O 3 -BaF 2 fluxes. The absorption, luminescence, and scintillation properties of these films are measured and compared with the films grown from the standard PbO-B 2 O 3 flux. It appears that the films obtained from the BaObased flux exhibit better luminescent and scintillation properties with respect to film… Show more

“…On the other hand, flux components are introduced in the SCF and strongly influence their luminescence and scintillation properties [19,20,24,25,28]. Usually, the SCFs prepared from the PbO-based flux, can contain lead ions preferably in the Pb 2+ charge state.…”

“…Since the PbO-based melt dissolves the Pt-crucible, Pt ions can also be introduced in the orthosilicate, perovskite or garnet lattices. As a consequence, various locally non-compensated lattice defects can be created, what may result in the decrease of the scintillation efficiency and LY of SCF scintillators [19,20,25,28].…”

“…The liquid phase epitaxy (LPE) for the last three decades shows itself as a beneficial method for the development of phosphors based on single crystalline films (SCF) of oxide compounds (Robertson and van Tol, 1984;Ferrand, et al, 1999;Zorenko, et al, 1990Zorenko, et al, , 2002Zorenko, et al, , 2003Zorenko, et al, , 2009aZorenko and Gorbenko, 2009;Kucera et al, 2008). The application fields of such SCF phosphors now include the a-and b-scintillators, screens for visualization of X-ray images and cathodoluminescent (CL) screens, thermoluminescent media and luminescent converters of LED (Zorenko, et al, 2005).…”
