Abstract: The metabolic syndrome (MS) is a conglomerate of interrelated risk factors-including obesity, atherogenic dyslipidemia, arterial hypertension, and insulin resistance-which exponentially increase the risk of developing cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
