INTRODUÇÃOC onfiança interpessoal é um conceito central nas ciências sociais, sendo muito aplicado à discussão sobre cultura política (Almond e Verba, 1965;Inglehart, 1988), capital social (Coleman, 1998;Putnam, 1994) e redes sociais (Granovetter, 1973;Burt, 2000). A confiança, portanto, está na essência de relações causais complexas que vinculam as crenças e ações de indivíduos ao funcionamento de organizações e instituições, levando a resultados positivos coletivos e individuais.

Por exemplo, em nível individual, Coleman indica que confiança interpessoal e capital social podem contribuir para a formação de capital humano (1998).
