The nonlinear surface impedance of YBa2Cu3O7−δ thin films in zero and large applied fields

Abstract: We present coplanar resonator measurements of the nonlinear microwave surface impedance of laser ablated and electron-beam coevaporated YBa2Cu3O7−δ thin films at 8 GHz in zero and applied magnetic fields, including the effects of irradiation with heavy ions. Correlations between the changes in surface resistance and reactance as a function of microwave current suggest that there are different contributions to the nonlinear behavior at low and high microwave currents in both zero and applied fields. In zero fie… Show more

“…In addition, the dielectric nanoparticles (as well as point-like radiation defects) implanted in the matrix of a HTS film can significantly improve its characteristics at microwave frequencies. Namely, these implanted zero-dimensional nano-sized objects can decrease the surface resistance in the Meissner state [12,13] and eliminate the oscillations of Abrikosov vortices and related microwave energy losses, thus decreasing the contribution of Abrikosov vortices to the value in the mixed state of a type-II superconductor [14,15]. In the present work, we consider the effect of the addition of point-like defects on the microwave surface resistance value ( ) in the Meissner state of a superconductor and demonstrate how this treatment can significantly decrease ( ) value at least at low temperatures.…”

“…There is also some indication in the literature that the pinning constant p ͑and, hence, the pinning frequency, p ϭ p /) may be field dependent. 40,41 To account for this, we considered p to be field dependent in the following form: where the field dependence of p is essentially determined by that of the critical current density J c . For an inhomogeneous superconductor containing weak links the field dependence of J c is well described by the following empirical relationship: 7…”
