The novel coronavirus disease (COVID‐19) complicated by pulmonary embolism and acute respiratory distress syndrome

Abstract: Acute respiratory distress syndrome and coagulopathy played an important role in morbidity and mortality of severe COVID‐19 patients. A higher frequency of pulmonary embolism (PE) than expected in COVID‐19 patients was recently reported. The presenting symptoms for PE were untypical including dyspnea, which is one of the major symptoms in severe COVID‐19, especially in those patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). “…In the first months of 2020, different reports suggesting an increasing risk of APE in COVID-19 patients were published. 6 Thus, in late March, a multidisciplinary group from our hospital issued an internal protocol with some recommendations to prevent and treat thrombotic complications in COVID-19 patients. The protocol strongly recommended performing a diagnostic CTPA to confirm or rule out APE in COVID-19 patients admitted to the internal medicine department wards presenting respiratory deterioration after admission, defined by a PaO 2 /FiO 2 ratio reduction of >30%.…”

“…Waste disposal is another challenge as the slums themselves have an area for garbage collection and this alone serves as a hub for plenty of other diseases. (Li et al, 2020) This has caused pre-existing illness among people. (Deepika, Preejitha and Brundha, 2020) and thus the effect of coronavirus will further complicate the already terminally ill.(Reichal, Rani and Brundha, 2020) Essentiality of spreading awareness As discussed earlier, there is no doubt on whether or not it is essential to spread awareness.…”
