“…From 1925 to 1942, tannic acid was widely use topically for the treatment of severely burnt skin. While this was found to be an effective treatment, it was realized that it also caused necrosis of the liver (Erb et al ., 1943), and the practice was therefore discontinued. Tannic acid has also been used for diagnostic purposes.…”

Lucke, whose report included 48 fatally burned subjects, claimed that there was a common morphological picture for acute renal failure caused by a variety of conditions.…”
