“…It is difficult to say which factor, or both, drove this association because three out of the four infants with ROP were also infants who received postnatal steroids. ROP (grouped by worst stage documented) has been shown to correlate with longer VEP latency at 7 y of age (28), and postnatal steroids affect neurodevelopmental outcomes (29). However, ROP and corticosteroid exposure may serve as biomarkers of illness because these were probably some of the sickest infants of the group.…”

“…Although some correlation was noted [18], good visual outcomes were seen with marked structural change [19], and severe visual impairment was noted despite mild or moderate retinal residua [20]. With regard to functional analysis, a previous report noted rod photoreceptor dysfunction on ERG [21] and a delay in transient pattern-reversal P1 visual evoked potential latency [22]. However, we did not perform VEP, and ERG and EOG findings were normal.…”
Idiopathic maculopathy is a rare posterior polar change that differs from the cicatricial changes seen in retinopathy of prematurity, and is independent of prior laser photocoagulation. No progression was observed, and visual prognosis was fair.
“…Kinder, die Stadium 3 durchgemacht haben, können eine signifikant verspätete Entwicklung der Sehschärfe zeigen [ 19]. Bei allen ROP-Stadien ohne Makulaabhebung korrelieren die Ergebnisse von elektrophysiologischen Untersuchungen (Muster-VEPs) mit dem anatomischen und funktionellen Langzeitergebnis [22].…”
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
