The penetration of Internet of Things in robotics: Towards a web of robotic things

Abstract: As the Internet of Things (IoT) penetrates different domains and application areas, it has recently entered also the world of robotics. Robotics constitutes a modern and fast-evolving technology, increasingly being used in industrial, commercial and domestic settings. IoT, together with the Web of Things (WoT) could provide many benefits to robotic systems. Some of the benefits of IoT in robotics have been discussed in related work. This paper moves one step further, studying the actual current use of IoT in r… Show more

“…The main aim of this research was to investigate the continuous intention to use IoMT by healthcare professionals characterized by responsible AI and factors that affect it. IoMT is an innovation of recent times and is still evolving (Kamilaris & Botteghi, 2020). The theory of DOI was applied to explain the phenomenon of continuous intention to use IoMT.…”

“…Some state it is worth using IoMT or any smart device because of the relative advantage it offers in comparison to the existing techniques while others say that it is a complex technology and difficult to use (Mavrogiorgou et al, 2019;Zeadally et al, 2019). The literature shows that IoMT is still evolving, and its use is in its infancy (Kamilaris & Botteghi, 2020). This indicates that the diffusion of IoMT could be associated with IoMT usage.…”

“…The authors of [43,44] explore the integration of a robotic system with IoT technology, because this will advance the abilities and capabilities for creating innovative services. There is also potential for integration of a robot via a web called the Web of Things (WoT), to enhance its usability and performance, as explained in [45]. Even if a robot is functional in all aspects pertaining to the needs and service requirements of the user, without mechanisms to safeguard the privacy and security of the robot, it will not be adoptable or acceptable.…”

“…Combining IoT with WoT could provide various benefits in the arena of IT (Information Technology). Authors in [28], used the combination of IoT and WoT in robotics and encountered various real-life examples such as sports, health, entertainment, culture, military, domestic supports and surveillance, etc. by using bibliographic research to examine the behavior of WoT.…”
