“…This observation is consistent with a recent study of EATL in 18 Chinese patients, which also showed only type II histology [10]. In several previous studies of intestinal T-cell lymphomas in Asian patients [6][7][8][9]11,12,17,18], type II EATL was also predominantly observed, although fewer than 10 cases of apparently classical EATL were described. However, the diagnosis of classical EATL in these few cases had been queried, based on the lack of stringency in diagnosis, doubtful histologic features, and immunophenotypes that would in fact be consistent with type II EATL [10].…”

“…In refractory celiac disease, dissemination of abnormal intraepithelial T lymphocytes might occur in the whole of the GI tract, so that involvement of the large bowel practically only occurs in the context of active small bowel disease [22]. Furthermore, in two studies of EATL in Asian patients [10,17], where the immunophenotype of intraepithelial lymphocytes in villi adjacent to the lymphomas was compared with that of the tumor, 13/ 19 cases were disparate, strongly suggesting a pathogenesis different from classical EATL. Therefore, the finding of isolated large bowel involvement in this series further underlines that type II EATL might have an etiologic cause or pathogenetic mechanism different from classical EATL.…”

“…As type II enteropathy-associated T-cell lymphoma was introduced, several reports about this lymphoma from East Asia have been published. [17][18][19] In these reports, none of the patients had gluten-sensitive malabsorption syndrome. The definition of enteropathy varies among studies 17,20 and may influence the lymphoma classification.…”

“…El tipo II supone el 10-20% de las EATL en los países orientales, pero en los países occidentales es mucho más raro y no se asocia a la enfermedad celíaca. A diferencia del tipo I, se caracteriza por su positividad para CD8 y CD56 y por presentar reordenamiento clonal del gen del receptor de células T (TCR) 3,4 .…”
