The preparation, molecular structure, and theoretical study of carbohydrazide (CHZ)

Abstract: Carbohydrazide is prepared by reacting dimethyl carbonate with hydrazine hydrate. Its single crystal has been cultured with slow evaporation method. Its molecular structure and crystal structure have been determined by X-ray single crystal diffraction technique. The obtained results shows that the crystal belongs to Crystal system of Monoclinic, space group P2(1)/n with crystal parameters of a = 3.725(1) Å, b = 8.834(2) Å, c = 11.96(3) Å, β = 91.97(1) • , V = 392.23(2) Å 3 , Z = 4, D c = 1.522 g/cm 3 , µ = 0.1… Show more

“…The title compound is a water-soluble derivative of CHZ, which is composed of one NH 3NHCONHNH2 + cation and one toluenep-sulfonate anion (figure, top). In the cation the bond lengths and bond angles of NH 3 NHCONHNH 2 + are similar to those of carbohydrazide [1], picric carbohydrazide (CHZPA) [2] and 3-nitro-1,2,4-triazol-5-one carbohydrazide (CHZNTO) [3]. Owing to the partial protonation of CHZ, the bond lengths of C1N3 and N3N4 are a little longer than those of C1N2 and N1N2 because of the electrostatic interaction between the cation and anion, which is in agreement with CHZPA and CHZNTO.…”

“…The first in issue 3 is a paper by J. Zhang, T. Zhang, and Yu [144] dealing with carbohydrazide (CHZ). This study of CHZ is important as it has been used as an intermediate [145,146] of the organic synthesis for the fine chemicals and medicine, as an effective oxygen scavenger for prevention of corrosion [147] and in explosives and propellants [148,149].…”

“…As carbohydrazide (CHZ) is an interesting azotic ligand with nonbonded lone pairs of electrons on the nitrogen of the amino group and the oxygen of the carbonyl group, it is considered as an excellent candidate for ligand fuels. Recently, Zhang et al2 studied the molecular structure of CHZ by using single crystal diffraction and density functional theory, and theoretically investigated the mechanisms and kinetics for preparing CHZ by reacting dimethyl carbonate with hydrazine3. Moreover, Dutta et al4 reported that CHZ can coordinate with many transition metal atoms as a bidentate ligand.…”
