The present status of canine parvovirosis

Abstract: Results from studies performed by the authors and by other workers, have greatly increased the knowledge of canine parvovirus. The authors review the situation with particular reference to virology, epidemiology, pathogenesis, pathology and immunoprophylaxis.

“…We used hierarchical logistic regression modeling to determine summary estimates of the sensitivity, specificity, diagnostic odds ratio, and LRs by the bivariate model approach, as well as hierarchical summary ROC (HSROC) plots . Likelihood ratios of greater than 2.00 or less than 0.50 with 95% CIs not including 1.00 were considered statistically significant . We performed the following sensitivity analyses: (1) a predefined comparison of LRs in studies using distinct reference standards for GCA; (2) a nonpredefined comparison of LRs in prospective and retrospective studies; and (3) a predefined analysis restricted to pretreatment laboratory tests.…”

“…Regression, machine learning models, or clinical scoring systems have been suggested, but these rely on complete information and still require further validation . Pretest probability might additionally be estimated by using likelihood ratios (LRs) of clinical features to allow sequential bayesian probability revision . A previous meta-analysis reported pooled estimates of the LRs of clinical and laboratory features for a positive TAB finding.…”

“…57 • 105 • 120 Inactivated CPV-2 vaccines should be used for the immunization of pregnant bitches. 57 The close antigenic relationship of CPV -2 and FPV precludes the administration of FPV vaccines to young puppies, because the FPV vaccine virus is rapidly neutralized by maternal antibodies. 19…”

“…Although modified live CPV-2 has not been shown to cross the placental barrier, it is contraindicated in pregnant bitches. 57 Puppies vaccinated at less than 4 to 5 weeks old with modified live CPV-2 may develop myocarditis. 52 · 56 • 66 · 106 • 121 The modified live CPV-2 vaccine is contraindicated in immunosuppressed dogs.…”
