The pretreatment albumin to globulin ratio predicts survival in patients with natural killer/T-cell lymphoma

Abstract: Background. The pretreatment albumin to globulin ratio (AGR) has been reported to be a predictor of survival in several types of cancer. The aim of this study was to evaluate the prognostic impact of AGR in patients with natural killer/T-cell lymphoma (NKTCL).Methods. We retrospectively reviewed the available serum biochemistry results for 331 NKTCL patients before treatment. AGR was calculated as albumin/(total protein—albumin), and a cut-off value of 1.3 was used to define AGR as low or high. Survival analys… Show more

“…Preoperative AGR and the PNI were significantly associated with OS in GB, which agrees with findings for other malignancies. 12 , 17 , 18 , 25 27 Although AGR and PNI were associated with preoperative albumin level and lymphocyte count, the predictive value of both remained significant after adjustment for other clinical characteristics on multivariable analysis. According to the ROC analysis, AGR had better specificity than the PNI, and the PNI had better sensitivity than AGR.…”

“…Hypoalbuminemia was proposed to be a new prognostic indicator for evaluation of NHLs [41]. In T-cell lymphomas, lower albumin level may reflect cytokine-induced suppression of albumin synthesis and increasing degradation [42].…”

“…Albumin-to-globulin ratio (AGR) which was calculated from the equation of albumin/(total proteins - albumin), had been suggested and considered as an effective combination of two strong prognostic factors. In the hematologic tumor, it had been reported that lower AGR predicted poorer survival outcomes in lymphoma 14 .…”
