Background Hyperuricemia has an increasing incidence in various regions year by year, in this study, we evaluated the prevalence of hyperuricemia in a routine physical examination in Nanning, Guangxi Province, and analyzed the influencing factors of hyperuricemia, aiming to provide evidence for the prevention and treatment of hyperuricemia and related diseases. Methods Data were collected from 1957 patients who underwent physical examinations at the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi Medical University in China since 2017. Questionnaires were structured, including subjects’ demographics, lifestyle, personal history, chronic disease history, medication history, etc. UA (uricase method), TC (cholesterol oxidase method), TG (glycerol phosphate oxidase method), HDL‐C (direct method), LDL‐C (direct method), BUN (rate method), creatinine (sarine oxidase method), and GLU (oxidase‐peroxidase method) were detected. Independent risk factors for hyperuricemia were determined by bivariate non‐conditional logistic regression analysis. Results The overall prevalence of hyperuricemia was 16.6% (19.5% in males and 14.9% in females). Gender, waist circumference, BMI, the proportion of drinking, hypertension, high education, serum concentrations of TC, TG, LDL‐C, BUN, and creatinine were significantly higher and the serum concentration of HDL‐C was significantly lower in patients with and without hyperuricemia (all p < 0.05). Waist circumference, BMI, BUN, and creatinine were independent risk factors for hyperuricemia. Conclusion The prevalence of hyperuricemia is very high in Guangxi. Public health lectures should be conducted to encourage people to establish a healthy lifestyle and strengthen early intervention for hyperuricemia to reduce the risk of cardio‐cerebrovascular and other related diseases.

Objectives: The study aimed to assess the clinical value of the triglyceride/high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(TG/HDL-c) ratio as a diagnostic marker for hyperuricemia (HUA) in female population in China. Methods: A total of 21,316 eligible female participants, aged 18 years and older, were consecutively recruited during routine medical examinations at Northern Jiangsu People’s Hospital from July 2014 to August 2023. Participants were divided into four groups based on their TG/HDL-c ratio values. Logistic regression analysis models were employed to further investigate the correlation between the prevalence of HUA and TG/HDL-c ratio in this region.Restricted cubic splines (RCS) were used to explore the linear associations of TG/HDL-c and HUA. Results: The average age of participants was 42.68±13.96 years and the overall prevalence of HUA is 6.41%. The mean uric acid level was 265.34±59.72umol/L. The univariate logistic analysis showed that a higher TG/HDL-c ratio was positively correlated with the presence of hyperuricemia (OR (95%CI) =3.601(3.281,3.951), P < 0.001). In different age groups of female participants, we found a statistically significant association between higher levels of TG/HDL-c and HUA(P<0.05). In female participants, there was a nonlinear association between TG/HDL-c and HUA (P < 0.001).After adjusting for multiple covariates, this study found a significant interaction between TG/HDL-c and BMI, as well as creatinine, with a statistically significant difference (P < 0.05).The AUC for TG/HDL-c in predicting the occurrence of HUA among female participants was 0.717(95%Cl:0.703-0.731). Conclusions: An elevated TG/HDL-C ratio increases the risk of HUA in females in eastern China, particularly in individuals with low creatinine levels and normal body weight. Monitoring TG/HDL-c levels may be beneficial for preventing HUA in women.

A preliminary probabilistic nomogram model for predicting hyperuricemia in male participants

Objectives Hyperuricaemia (HUA) is a major contributing factor to the development of gout and is linked to an increased risk of cardiometabolic disease, particularly in men. Despite this, there is a lack of simple tools for predicting HUA in male patients. This study aims to develop and validate a nomogram model to estimate the risk of HUA in male subjects. Methods A total of 21,953 eligible male participants, aged 18 years and older, were consecutively recruited during routine medical examinations at Northern Jiangsu People’s Hospital from July 2014 to August 2023. To identify factors related to HUA in male subjects, the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression and logistic regression methods were used. A nomogram was subsequently constructed to predict the likelihood of HUA in men.The performance of the proposed nomogram was evaluated based on a calibration plot, ROC curve and Harrell’s concordance index (C-index). Results Patients with hyperuricemia exhibited significantly elevated levels of BMI, red blood cell count, hemoglobin, hematocrit, blood glucose, serum urea, creatinine, total cholesterol, LDL-c, and triglyceride levels compared to those without hyperuricemia (P < 0.001). Conversely, the age and HDL-c levels of patients with hyperuricemia were notably lower than those without hyperuricemia (P < 0.001). Predictors used in the prediction nomogram included LDL-c, TG, HDL-c and serum Creatinine and RBC. Then, a nomogram model for predicting HUA was established based on the above indicators. Our model achieved well-fitted calibration curves and the C-indices of this model were 0.700 (95% CI: 0.692–0.708) and 0.705 (95% CI: 0.691–0.720) in the development and validation groups, respectively. Conclusions With excellent predictive abilities, the nomogram serves as a straightforward and dependable tool for estimating the risk of HUA among male participants.
