The production of an efficient visible light photocatalyst for CO oxidation through the surface plasmonic effect of Ag nanoparticles on SiO2@α-Fe2O3 nanocomposites

Abstract: A process for the photo deposition of noble Ag nanoparticles on a core-shell structure of SiO 2 @a-Fe 2 O 3 nanocomposite spheres was performed to produce a CO photo oxidation catalyst. The structural analyses were carried out for samples produced using different Ag metal nanoparticle weight percentages on SiO 2 @a-Fe 2 O 3 nanocomposite spheres by X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emissionscanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), UV-vis spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (F… Show more

“…Salvadora persica wood contains tannins, sulfur compounds, isothiocyanate compounds, sangrin, chlorine, silica, silicon, and sodium chloride bicarbonate. [28] Our other research reported the successful synthesis of CeO 2 , [29] ZnO, [30] α-Fe 2 O 3 , [31] Cd-doped CeO 2 , [32] Ni-doped CeO 2 , [33] and Ag-doped ZnO [34] nanoparticles through the exertion of this plant extract. This paper introduces the application of a one-step route for the direct synthesis of α-Fe 2 O 3 @Ag and Fe 3 O 4 @Ag core-shell nanoparticles by employing the aqueous extract of Salvadora persica bark, with the aim of offering a simple and fast synthesizing process that does not require any high-temperature treatment for attaining the desired resultants.…”

“…For the preparation of the nanocomposites, SiO 2 nanospheres were first prepared as per our previous work [10]. The SiO 2 spheres were synthesized from a mixture of tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS), anhydrous ethanol, and water, which was stirred at room temperature for 15 min.…”

“…In particular, these metal oxides have shown greater stability and sensitivity, especially for the degradation of organic pollutants [6]. Among the various metal oxides, ZnO and α-Fe 2 O 3 are the best combination for the production of the heterogeneous photocatalysts used for wastewater treatment [7], CO 2 reduction [8], hydrogen production [9], CO oxidation [10], and water splitting [9,11]. The heterogeneous semiconductors can also be utilized to trap electrons at surface sites and to support the formation of superoxide anion radicals O 2 − from O 2 molecules.…”

“…12,33,[39][40][41][42] Several studies published in recent years have demonstrated that Mn, Al, Cu, Fe, Pt, and Au-doped/embedded graphene catalysts have higher catalytic activity for the NH 3 decomposition process, as well as the other electrochemical reactions. [43][44][45][46][47] Considering the strong relationship between metal nanoparticles and support material interactions, many metal-supported hybrid combinations should be studied and theoretically predicted.…”
