The Profile of the Academic Production on Men’s Artistic Gymnastics From the Web of Science and Scopus

Abstract: The objective of this study was to describe the scientific production on men’s artistic gymnastics (MAG) in journals indexed on the Scopus and Web of Science platforms. To this end, we searched on both platforms for the keywords “men’s artistic gymnastics” and "male artistic gymnastics", with a non-specified date range. After applying the exclusion criteria, 52 scientific articles were found, distributed between 1994 and 2019. The year with the highest number of publications so far is 2018, with emphasis on th… Show more

“…These results are evidence of domination of authors with Spanish affiliations. They are very different from those found in men's artistic gymnastics (Vargas & Capraro, 2020), where the most productive authors are from British (2 authors with 8 documents each), Brazilian and Slovenian universities (1 author, 5 documents for each country). Since the same study estimated the journals' h-index and not the authors' hindex, the results are not comparable in the present study.…”

“…The fact that each document presents an increase of only 0.76 citations per year suggests a slow progress of science in this field. A bibliometric analysis conducted in men's artistic gymnastics retrieved 52 documents distributed between 1994 and 2019 (Vargas & Capraro, 2020). In fact, between 1994 and 2014, the highest number of annual publications was 3 documents (2007, 2011 and 2021).…”

“…Therefore, it is deemed relevant to assess the state of scientific research in artistic gymnastics, akin to previous analyses in other sports like judo (Caravaca, Hernandez-Garcia, & Garciade-Alcaraz, 2018), badminton (Blanca-Torres, Ortega, Nikolaidis, & Torres-Luque, 2020), or collective sports (Mamani-Jilaja, Huayanca-Medina, Casa-Coila, Vilca-Apaza, & Romero-Carazas, 2023). Through a bibliometric analysis (Denche-Zamorano et al, 2023;Leite et al, 2023;Vargas & Capraro, 2020), this study aims to analyze the growth, size, and distribution of scientific publications related to artistic gymnastics. Additionally, it seeks to identify prolific and prominent authors, journals, countries, keywords, and highly cited documents, both in the general domain of artistic gymnastics and in its male and female modalities.…”
