The Properties of Concrete Based on Steel Slag as a By-Product of Metallurgical Production

Abstract: This article presents the results of research on the use of unstable steel slag with a fraction of 0/8 mm as a 100% substitute for natural aggregate in concrete production. Two types of cements were used for the production of concrete: Portland cement CEM I 42.5N and hybrid cement H-CEMENT. Both of these cements were produced by the company Považská cementárna, a.s., Ladce. The main objective of this study was to assess the suitable type of binder to be combined with unstable steel slag in the production of… Show more

“…Overwhelming majority of works devoted to scale processing describe granulation processes (manufacture of pellets) and briquetting, that really are preparing operations before pyrometallurgical processing [9][10][11][12][13]. Several scientific teams propose to use scale as additive to building materials [14][15][16][17][18]. Some enterprises try to solve the problem of scale processing and utilization via its use for perimeter pavement of domestic roads or as substrate / filling agent in building works; however, it is not always allowable from the point of view of ecological and industrial safety.…”
