The Protective Effect of Garden Cress Lepidium sativum against Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) Induced Hepatotoxicity in Mice Model

Abstract: Background: Lepidium sativum (LS) is a very potent and often used as anti-cancer is largely limited due to the dose-related toxic effects. The present study investigated the protective role of LS that can reduce the liver injury induced by LPS.Methods: Forty white male mice were randomly divided into five groups: the vehicle control group, LPS group, LPS plus LS group, LS pretreated plus LPS group and LS + LPS + LS group. Mice were sacrificed at 2, 4, 8, 16, 24 and 48h. Blood and liver samples were collected f… Show more

“…Inflammation is one of the most important factors in liver toxicity. LS reduces inflammation by reducing TNF-α, IL-6, IL-1β, and NF-κB [29,30]. These effects seem to be due to the presence of α-linoleic acid (which has antiinflammatory effects) in LS [25].…”

“…Treatment with LPS may cause abnormalities such as sinusoid congestion, neutrophil infiltrations, necrosis, and hepatocellular decay, whereas LS therapy reduced these effects. These data suggest that LS has considerable hepatoprotective properties in ALI induced by LPS in mice [ 90 ].…”

“…Liver tissues were fixed in 10% formalin solution. The formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue sections were deparaffinized, rehydrated in an ethanol series and subjected to epitope retrieval (Sayed et al, 2021). For eNOS and nNOS immunostaining, the sections were incubated with a primary antibody (anti-eNOS antibody: Invitrogen, USA, 1:100; anti-nNOS antibody: Invitrogen, USA, 1:8) overnight at 4C.…”
