Abstract: The aim of this paper is to map the scientific landscape related to cancer research worldwide between 2012 and 2017. We use scientific publication data from Web of Science Core Collection and combine bibliometrics and social network analysis techniques to identify the most relevant journals, research areas, countries and research organizations in cancer scientific landscape. “…We detected an extensive increase in number of publications and corresponding growth rate of NB papers after 1991, which may reflect the concentrated research to establish international criteria for NB diagnosis, staging, and treatment strategies [27][28][29]. Regarding the number of publications as a proxy for quantity of research, it is difficult to make direct comparisons to other pediatric and non-pediatric oncological scientometric studies, as the time periods of investigation vary significantly and research areas are represented differently in the literature [30]. For instance, as recently shown by Syrimi [26].…”

“…Bibliometric analysis has been widely used in medical research. Besides critical care medicine (Zhang et al, 2018), it also includes traumatology (Dokur & Uysal, 2018), emergency medicine (Prats et al, 2018), neurosurgery (Alfaifi et al, 2018), oncology (Cabral, da Graca Derengowski Fonseca & Mota, 2018), gynecology (Huang et al, 2018), pediatrics (McDowell et al, 2017), and psychology (Tur-Porcar et al, 2018) and so on.…”
