The Research of Processing Technique for Die-Pressing Based on FEA

Abstract: The 3D finite element simulations are conducted for the cold working of a fastener hole in a low carbon steel plate. The simulation models the actual cold working process where the hole edge is chamfered with die-press. The agreement of finite element method and experimental results is good enough. The residual stresses are analyzed under the different die-press parameters and contact conditions i.e. die-pressing depth, friction factor, the die taper. The main results in this work are as follows: With increasi… Show more

“…Fatigue life of structural elements with bolt holes depends mainly on the law of residual stress distribution around these holes 【10~11】 . Wang et al [9] reveal the important role played by the DP parameters on the quality of the treatment. Related research [12] also points out that cold work with improper parameter may cause two extreme cases: one is called over strengthening with surface peeling and internal damage of structures, instead which may decrease the load-carrying capacity and fatigue life of a structural element with a hole; the other is weakly strength with minimal plastic strain and residual stress around the hole, which can not achieve the original intention of DP.…”
