The Road Towards 6G: A Comprehensive Survey

Abstract: <p>As of today, the fifth generation (5G) mobile communication system has been rolled out in many countries and the number of 5G subscribers already reaches a very large scale. It is time for academia and industry to shift their attention towards the next generation. At this crossroad, an overview of the current state of the art and a vision of future communications are definitely of interest. This article thus aims to provide a comprehensive survey to draw a picture of the sixth generation (6G) system i… Show more

“…W ITH the increasing demand for wireless communications anywhere at any time, local wireless networks are overwhelmingly deployed. Besides, the demand for lowlatency or strictly bounded delay communication dramatically increases in 5G and beyond 5G society [1]. Low latency is mandatory in various large-scale, industrial applications such as healthcare, transport, entertainment, manufacturing, and so on [2].…”

“…To meet the increasing traffic demand, standardization activities have started to regulate the use of millimeter-Wave (mmW), which is considered as a promising Radio Frequency (RF) technology for next-generation cellular communications [9]. By shifting towards high frequencies, higher bandwidths (up to 3 GHz for 5G mmW evolution) are available, resulting in an overall increased capacity to fulfill demanding services, such as extended sensing for high-LoA > Access-2021-11386 < V2X [10].…”
