The Role of Crosslink Density in Influencing the Electrical Resistance Behaviour of Polymeric Coatings

Abstract: Paint films used to protect meta lic surfaces are commonly polymeric in nature. The extent of protection offered by tic electrical resistance behaviou, and its effect on impeding local electrochemical processes. In the present work a range of polymeric coatings have been produced with systematically varied crosslinked density using an ultra-violet light curing technique. Their electrical resistance behaviour in an environment of varying concentrations of K C I electrolyte has been examined. It is demonstrated … Show more

“…Acrylated epoxidized soybean oil (ASEO), another renewable resource‐based product containing both vinyl and hydroxyl groups, is readily synthesized from acrylic acid and epoxidized soybean oil. It has been extensively used in surface coatings,34 ink,35 polymer resins,20 and composites 36. The objective of this work is to explore the feasibility of developing a novel soybean oil‐based VPU dispersion by replacing petroleum‐based polyols and end‐capping monomers in the VPU with chlorinated soybean oil‐based polyol (SOL) and AESO, and to prepare grafted latices with acrylics through emulsion copolymerization.…”
