“Sustainable development” (SD) is a term that has gained prominence in the international dia-logue around development. Many, however, continue to misunderstand the concept, its principles, its development, and its operationalization. The wide variety of definitions and interpretations of SD lean toward institutional and social prerogatives rather than unifying the essence of the con-cept, which is rooted in conventional ideas and values. By delving deeper into the paradigm, its history, and its potential, this research sought to contribute to ongoing discussions about sus-tainable development. The literature was thoroughly analyzed using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) 2020. This historical and conceptual analysis sought to update the body of knowledge on sustainability and sustainable development by examining the metaphorical and epistemological underpinnings of SD’s various definitions, evolutions, and principles. The research concludes and argues that intergenerational justice, based on the environment, economy, and society, is the central tenet of the entire sustainable develop-ment argument. The focus and consideration of interested parties are moving from the protection of the environment to social sustainability. The future of SD is likely to continue to focus much more on the social pillar and integrate digitalization in implementing the SD concept, especially in the fourth industrial revolution. To promote ethical human behavior and activities worldwide, at national and local levels, decision-makers must be continuously cognizant of the interdepend-encies, direct interactions, and balance between the three core constructs of SD.

ENGLISHManaging the potential of coastal regions becomes a development challenge in order to improve human welfare. This research aimed to describe the performance achievement of rural development in the coastal regions in the study area. This research used a quantitative approach. It used secondary data. It used descriptive-comparative analyses. The descriptive result showed that all villages in the coastal areas have increased their rural development indexes (IDM) but only about 43% increased their status for the period 2017 to 2021. The comparative result proved that in 2021 the highest IDM is in Trangkil District and the lowest one was in Batangan District. The comparative test using Chi-Square (X2) for the development performance has a counting value of 8,125 in significance of 10 %. It is greater than the table value so there is a significant difference in development performance among the coastal regions in the study area. Therefore, the region having the least development indexes (IDM) should become the priority in the regional development policy to alleviate disparity. INDONESIAPengelolaan potensi kawasan pesisir untuk mewujudkan kesejahteraan menjadi tantangan pembangunan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mendeskripsikan capaian kinerja pembangunan pedesaan kawasan pesisir di area studi. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif. Data penelitian menggunakan data sekunder. Analisa data menggunakan analisis deskriptif-komparatif. Hasil analisis deskriptif menunjukkan semua desa kawasan pesisir di area studi mengalami peningkatan Indeks Desa Membangun (IDM) tetapi hanya sebagian desa mengalami peningkatan status tipologinya selama kurun waktu 2017 - 2021. Hasil analisis komparatif menunjukkan bahwa tahun 2021 capaian IDM kawasan pesisir tertinggi berada di kawasan Trangkil dan IDM terendah berada di kawasan Batangan. Uji komparatif dengan Chi kuadrat (X2), kinerja pembangunan pedesaan kawasan pesisir kurun waktu 2017-2021 memiliki nilai hitung chi kuadrat (X2) 8,125 signifikan pada signifikansi 10%, lebih besar dari nilai tabel sehingga ada perbedaan signifikan capaian kinerja pembangunan pedesaan antar kawasan pesisir di area studi. Oleh karena itu, kawasan yang memiliki capaian IDM terendah perlu memperoleh prioritas dalam kebijakan pembangunan untuk mengeliminasi kesenjangan pembangunan.

Learning a language also contains a cultural learning component. Teaching a foreign language in a country can help to promote the learner’s local culture. English is the most significant language for cross-cultural communication amongst people all over the world in these global Englishes. English is included in the education curriculum in Indonesia and has been learned as a foreign language since the elementary school level. This study aims to find out the cultural content in EFL Textbooks used by Boarding Schools in Banten as well as how the representation of culture in the textbooks. Kachru’s Three Concentric Circle of English (1984) and Moran’s Five Dimension of Culture (2001) were used as the main theory in this study. Content analysis qualitative research was used in this study. This research is a multimodal analysis because the data is not only in the form of words but also from pictures and audio. The subjects of this analysis are two textbooks used by SMA Islam Nurul Fikri Serang and SMAN CMBBS Pandeglang with the textbooks title are “Pathway to English” Grade X and “Symphony 1” Grade X. Mile and Huberman’s theory about qualitative data analysis method (2014) i.e. Data Condensation, Data display, and Conclusion drawing used in this study for analyzing the data. The data analysis on the two textbooks reveals that first, Inner circle culture, Outer Circle Culture, Expanding Circle Culture, and Local culture were identified in the textbook with the most dominant type is inner circle culture; second, the cultural content in the two textbooks were represented by product, practice, perspective, community, and person with the most dominant occurrence was products. This study concludes that the cultural content in the two textbooks still orients to and promotes the inner circle culture and accommodating local culture, expanding circle culture and outer circle culture.
